Need / request any detailed photos of fuel pump / fuel filter configuration. I've attached a photo of my current configuration. Previous 'guy with tools' said this was original equipment filter, but I can't find it anywhere. Problem is, that when installed, the heater hose at the firewall hits it and leaks.

That is not an OEM filter. It's aftermarket. The later fuel pumps had the glass bowl and filter as part of the pump. That would move the filter away from the heater pipe. "40's did not have a filter. As an alternative I would remove that filter and put an inline filter between the pump and the carb. I found some small filters on line that fit perfect as in inline filter.

Here's a picture of my '40 with the later 46-48 style fuel pump (59A-9350) and the heater hose routed around it.

It's always bad practice to put a filter on the suction side of any pump.

Buy a correct flex hose and dump the filter. The screen in the sediment bowl of the fuel pump is adequate to remove any debris in the fuel. The current setup can create more problems than it solves: The hose clamps can loosen over time causing a vacuum leak The Teflon tape should never be used in a fuel system as it deteriorates and clogs the carburetor. It looks ugly to me.

hi I use the standard fuel line that Henry used, on the top of engine, but I use a 3031 napa fuel filter, all metal,,, on the bottom left side , tucked in the chassis. did this in the 1980's Never had a problem to me it is a good idea to filter the fuel before it fills up the fuel pump with dirt, we are talking old cars, it is easy to install, my 2 cents, 37RAGTOPMAN
