Wondering what colors were available in 39. I’ve found results for Ford/Mercury combined but didn’t know if Mercury was the same across the board with regards to color choices.

Ford and Mercury shared these colors: black, dartmouth green (dark green), jefferson blue (Dark Blue), gull gray (dark Gray), folkstone gray (light gray), coach maroon bright (medium maroon). Merrcury only colors for 1939 are: Mercury Blue Mettalic (light blue mettalic) and Tropical Green (medium green). Claret maroon ( light maroon) was added as a Spring Color on 5/1/39. Here is a link to the color chart. All of the colors on this chart are darker that the original paint, but it will give you a general idea of the color. https://www.autocolorlibrary.com/pages/1939-Mercury.html Here is another chart that is closer to the original colors, but still not correct: https://hdpaintcode.com/1939-to-1949-mercury-paint-codes/ How are you doing with your search for an antenna? Tom, I was able to make the antenna work by shaving away a good deal of the flange to match the roof angle. I’m still looking for an original but this will do as it turned out great. Just need to find a 1939 heater and I’ll be in business. Regarding the paint colors; did the interior colors vary to match the paint or was everything tan across the board? Thank you

The interior colors were not color coordinated with the exterior colors. The inside window trim, door window trim, quarter window trim and back window trim were finished in a "Silver walnut grain". The inside door handles and window cranks were covered with a brown plastic. I don't have samples of the upholstery, bu I believe that the 1939 door panels were similar to the 1940. With cord seat covers the door panel was broadcloth and the armrests had the cord fabric. With Broadcloth seating the armrests were covered with the seat material. There was also a strip of carpeting along the bottom of the door. The rear carpet was in 3 pieces, left, right and center. I have sent you a PM about the 1939 hot water heater that I have for sale.

I did not find that color listed for the Mercury in 1939 in the V-8 Album or the sales literature that I have. Cloud Mist Gray was a spring color for Ford and was carried over into 1940 for both the Ford and Mercury. The sales folders show the color of the handles as brown. The 1940 are blue, but as they aged, the plastic yellowed so they turned green. If you have information confirming that they were Gold, I would like to see a copy of it.

Tom I will shoot pictures of my handles this evening. Our car, as you can see, Is cloud mist grey.....ALL the glass bugs are dated 10-38. Our body# is 1808. As I said there are other early production pieces on our car including the "Ford-Mercury" caps. I would say with certainty that our fenders have been re-painted.......BUT no signs of the body every being painted as there is signs of the paint starting to wear through on the top down to the primer coat...It's cloud mist grey...(????)

Tom Posted this on the "antenna" post so here goes again, here is why I said gold on my handles......6 of the 8 handles on our car are "gold" finish and two are the "brown" you speak of.

Thanks for sharing the photos. My opinion on the gold color is that the plastic coating has yellowed giving the brown a golden color. This is just like the green 1940 handles. Your door panel photos show that my description of them is incorrect. Your photos show that the door panels had the seat upholstery on the upper part of the panel and that the armrests were covered with the sidewall fabric. Every thing that I have shows the Cloudmist Gray color as being a spring color. Your car looks like Cloudmist Gray in the photos and i agree that it probably was not repainted. My thoughts (which may be wrong) are that the car left the factory as Tropical Green and has faded to look like Cloudmist Gray. The firewall photos seem to bear that out.
