Should the tail light bezel retaining screw on a '39 passenger car be slotted or Phillips head? The Dennis Carpenter reproduction shows a Phillips head, but I have my doubts. TIA Russ H Southeast PA

There were ZERO Phillips head screws on a '39 Ford. Oval head slotted is what you are in need of. The authentic screw had a shoulder so it could not be drawn down too far.

Much obliged, Mike, thank you. The absence of other Phillips head screws on the car is what gave rise to my doubts in the first place.

I am not 100% certain but don't believe Phillips screws showed up on a Ford until '46. Perhaps '42? Positively not through 1941.

1946 is correct for Phillip screws.

Once again we see that AI info may or may not be correct. AI searches the internet and consolidates what it learned into a general report. And we know there is a lot of bogus info out there on the internet. While the industry may have moved to Phillips screws in the late thirties, our experts know that Ford did not.
