I need an oil pressure sending unit for my original oil gauge in my 35 car. Will any pressure switch work that is 6 volt and 50 pound. MAC'S has one for $15.25 but they said it is not for a stock gauge. Why?

Be careful that you don't end up ordering a "switch" rather than a "sender". Some suppliers list a switch such as would work with an idiot light as well as a proper sender that gives a proportional signal to a proper gage - even though we all know that early V8s didn't have idiot lights. In the MAC's catalog you want the one that is listed "with gage" (probably 48-9278-WG), not the one marked "without gage". That's just a set of contacts that is designed to turn an idiot light on. Hope this helps!! Norm

C&G lists a sender titled "Oil Sending Unit for Use With stock Oil Gage" - P/N 41A-9278-OR. $40.00. 80 lbs. Listed for 35 to 53 passenger. For some reason they also list the "switch" I mentioned in my earlier post. Hope this helps. Norm

35gal, Check out the Ebay auction that kubes40 mentioned. This is the real McCoy. Don't lowball on your bid, as this is a rare bird. Check with the seller on returns if it doesn't work, though. The sender listed at C&G is not what you need, as it is for an 80 lb gauge. Yours is a 50 lb gauge.

35gal, If you still have an original sending unit, do not discard it, it can be rebuilt. Baxter Ford may provide this service.

I had the same problem with the restoration of my 36. I was told to contact Willy Jeep and order a sending unit for the 48 jeep. Seems that during WWII, Ford helped Willy by building the engines and Willy stayed with the 50lb sender. It's a little taller than the orginal but where it's located no one will know.

I installed the newer 80 lb pump for more pressure ,in my 37 85hp, high pressure oil pump KIT is about $50.00 and a 80 lb sending unit is $40.00 from JOBLOT in NY, IN AD says, DULPLICATE OF ORIGINAL. a complete hi press oil pump is with all the parts to pickup tube and screen is $234.95 for kit. Might be a better idea ? more pressure which is good and still works with original gauge, there was a 50 lb on E-BAY and it sold for $95.00 WOW,,, KEEP ON TRUCKIN 37RAGTOPMAN
