welt at running bioard fender '40 PU?

Looking for expert advice (Larry Caplan?)... Was there originally welt or anti-squeak material between the board and fenders on a 40 pickup truck? Thanks.

Nelsb01, Your reply pointed me in a direction and I DO appreciate your help. Still, a '36 ain't a '40. There were two very helpful fellow's on the Fordbarn that responded to me as well. They both had what appeared top be very authentic (unmolested) trucks. Both had remnants of anti-squeak material between the board and fenders. Thus, I decided to install anti-squeak.

To answer DD931: 1948 - 1952 model trucks used anti-squeak material between the fenders, fender extensions, grille parts and body The rear fenders didn't use anti-squeak. Anti-squeak is different than fender welting.

Thanks! I assume this means that I should use it on the ends of the running boards where they meet the fenders.

Mike: I had a good friend with a very nice 40 pickup back in the late 50's. His had never been "restored", but had been re-painted. "AS I RECALL" and of course that was sixty years ago, I do recollect him "masking-off" the layer of anti-squeak material at both ends of the running boards before re-painting. We also had a 40 and a 41 ton-and-a-half ranch trucks at our orchard operation. These had been purchased new, and were still original in all respects. Those trucks (albeit having totally different front fenders and short steel running boards that terminated at the back of the doors), ALSO had anti-squeak material between the front fenders "trailing edge" and the front edge of the running boards. So...for what it's worth; I can see no logical reason that a 40 pickup would be much different in this respect than say a 40 Standard or Deluxe passenger car. since they shared many front clip body components. As for "welting", I don't recall any.

Stroker, I did install a piece of anti-squeak material between the board and each fender. Like you have stated, it just made sense. Plus, now there have been three guys, yourself included, that had what are to be believed very unaltered trucks that had the material installed. That truck is now completed and ready to be shown - hopefully Dearborn next year. Thanks much for your help.
