Looking for members recommendations on the best 6-volt batteries for a flathead v-8 and where to buy them. 6-volts are not prominently featured on most automotive battery sites. Especially concerned about getting a 6-volt with maximum cranking amps for starting.

If it were me I would look at the 6 volt Optima. You can hide it in an original battery case.

Thanks, but would it fit under the front driver's side floorboard? I have heard the Optima's are too large and have to be jury-rigged to fit, or to modify the battery holder. I think one suggestion was to lay the battery on its side because it's too high to fit in the space. Any comments on that?

An optima battery will function in any position, even upside down,I'm told.

A Group 2LF Battery will fit under the floor. See this battery > https://www.batterycentralmall.com/Batteries/TurboStart/Script/S2LF_L.html

A Group 1 6 volt battery will fit in the under floor battery tray in a Model A and the battery tray of a 42 although it seems to be slightly smaller than the original battery. Check but I would think it would also fit the battery compartment on your V8. As for cranking capacity a Group 1 works just fine in my 42. Group 1s are made by Interstate and are available at NAPA and most other battery stores.

I got a Deka for my 1940 ford, $89 w/ 3 year warranty , good cold cranking amps, and needless to say I'm very happy with it and the price!

The Optima is 1.5" taller than a group 2L battery. Here is a link to battery size by group number https://www.batteryequivalents.com/bci-battery-group-size-chart.html

The Optima can easily fit beneath the floor board. It needs to be tipped at an angle. If authenticity is not paramount to you (it doesn't appear to be) then I'd go with the Optima. They last for years and will deliver the most CCA's.
