Hi Everyone. This is my first post. I have 1941 Ford Super Deluxe v8 My issue is that the gas pedal (which had a string tied to it) wont come all the way backup when pressed. If i remove the pedal from the carb, the linkage kicks back fine. the only other spring i can find is on the linkage on the firewall. That spring looks and seems to be fine. I have the service manual but cannot find much info on the pedal assembly. I'm guessing i may just be missing a spring or a part somewhere? Its just the pedal, the rod to the carb and one spring on the rod on the firewall. I'm hoping someone will have some insight for me. THnak you all in advance

My guess is that the hinge that attaches the foot pedal to the floorboard is binding. Spray some WD 40 on it. Cover the floor mat or carpet to keep from making a mess.

Check the length of the rod going to the carburetor. It should be 10.44" from the centerlines of the holes. On my 40, when I connect the carburetor end of the rod, I have to push the rod back towards the firewall about 1/2". This gives it enough spring tension to return the carburetor back to idle. Your floor mat could also cause a problem with the accelerator pedal rod.
