My 39 Standard appears to be starter crank ready. There is a hole in the grill and a clear path to the front pulley of the engine. The pulley has a crank hooking fixture on the front facing the hole. I guess what I am asking is did the car come with a crank for emergency use ? Ive been wondering this for years but only thought to ask since my starter conked out yesterday...Thanks...

Gary, your car did not come with a crank. They were available as an accessory for those who didn't trust their electric starters!

How hard are these cranks to come by ? I checked ebay and saw nothing that matched my year.

Gary, it's not year specific. The lug wrench pairs with an extension. Alan

There are different lengths of extensions for different vehicles. 32 even had an extension with a different end for the lug wrench side. If your lug wrench does not have the receiver for the extension, then you will need that also. Lyn Stacey can provide the correct extension and wrench. See V8 Times advisory panel list for his contact information.

Gary, be aware that the crank can damage your grille when used. The grille opening is small and any lateral movement of the crank handle will damage the grille.

I agree with Tom. The center grill piece is made of pot metal and many have been broken in the hole opening from trying to hand crank the motor. Don't ask me how I know this.

I already know how you know,my center piece has cracks probably from an attempt to hand crank. Considering the cost of that center piece, ill live with the cracks.
