I am debating using rebuilt Houdaille shocks on the rear axle of my truck. The previous owner had removed and disposed of them. The front axle has Houdaille shocks that appear to be original and are functional. I can find the shocks but have yet to find the control arms for the rear. This is my first build and my goal is a practical renovation that I will enjoy driving. Any advice on seeking and installing the shocks on the back? Anyone have a source for the control arm installed on the outside of the frame on each side? The truck also has round "trays" welded to the rear axle directly below the axle bumpers which I do not think are original because of the rough welding. They may have had springs installed at some point??

You probably know that you are looking for part number 48-18052-B They are available occasionally on for sale sites. You might want to check with Third Gen Automotive in TN.

You may be able to locate a pair of these shock arms by placing an ad for them under the "Parts Wanted" section of the Classifieds on this website.

Thanks for the info. I see a lot of shock conversion kits on line. Are the Houdaille shocks not desirable?

All depends on what you want in your vehicle. If you want originality, then Houdaille shocks are what you are looking for. If you want to go more modern, then the conversion way.

Nelsb01 Thank you for the advice. I am attempting to go as original as possible. The truck has a few revisions I do not plan to reverse, ie: hydraulic brakes, but if there is no reason Houdaille shocks will not perform, I would like to put them back. Currently I only have a leaf spring in play. 40Coupe, If you have, and do not plan to use them I would like to offer you a fair price. Even if the shocks need a rebuild it would give me a leg up. Thanks
