Brake adjustment

Recent member to the forum here. I am putting new wheel cylinders on my Coupe and find there is no shoe adjustment on my car. I thought all early Fords had the adjustment cog, but my car doesnt even have the slot in the back plate. Again, what do the experts thik Thks Classic Lover

hi classic lover I have a few questions ? what year car ? do you have few photos so we could see what want to do let us know, 37Ragtopman on the bottom of backing plate is there studs with nuts on them ?

Greetings It is a 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe I will attempt to get pics. I am not good at the new technology. No bolts with Nuts on backing plate. Ques If there were, what does that indicate Thks

Here a couple of photos of the adjusting mechanism for a 1940 Ford. The anchor bolts only need adjustment when the shoes are replaced. Tom

HI classic lover,,, on Brake adjustment I converted a 38 station wagon to juice brakes [ for a customer ] and had a hard time adjusting the brakes, a old timer told me to drill 2 - 1/4 holes in the drum on outer edge, and file a slot, and insert a feeler blade in the slot, it worked like a dream. used a .004 feeler blade between the drum and shoe, just to show you what was done back then, no special FORD tool , FORD had a special tool that attached to the spindle and rotated around and you used a feeler blade, hope this helps 37Ragtopman
