The user agrees to the following terms:

  1. All information that you provide to us for your membership is correct.
  2. You will not use your membership to spam, harrass, or exploit other members in any way.
  3. Vulgar, Abusive, Racist and Sexist Language will not be tolerated.
  4. Commercial-type sales postings will not be allowed.
  5. No mass posting or flooding of the boards is allowed.
  6. No Advertising of parts or cars; no Ebay or business/commercial ads (please use the "Classified" for ads Wanted or For Sale).
  7. VIEWING MULTIPLE TOPICS ON SCREEN: You can choose to see more than 10 Topics at a time ... Log In and choose "Preferences" from the top bar on the Forum page. Scroll down and Change the "Default Topics Returned" parameter to 25 or 50, and save the changes. Since this setting is stored in your browser 'cookies' (if enabled), it seems to use that stored value even if you are not logged in. So, if you use a PC that you haven't logged into the forum from, the setting still seem to remain at the default.
  8. EXTERNAL PHOTO LINKS ON FORUM: You can still use external photo links in your posts on the new forum. They follow the rules of any link in that they have to have the URL link qualified down to the full image file name (example: .jpg). The links will open in a new browser window, the same as an uploaded image attached to a post. Since an image attachment to any post does not display inline with the post, the results are the same. You can use multiple external links within a post. This link is from photos on a site from Don Clink's 'Deuce@75' albums:

    http://donclink.com/deuce_75_1/images/dscn2950.jpg

Using links from photo sites such as Photobucket can help in "size" issue with uploaded attachment files. For best viewing in web browsers, photos should be around the 800x600 pixel range, and probably not more than 1024x768. Most cameras today store HUGE jpg image files, as the default settings are in the 7, 8, 10, and 12Mb image sizes. The image files that are then attached are very large, and the browser can't display the full image size without using the scroll bars. Use the re-sizing functions of your photo editing software to reduce the image to 800x600, which reduces the file sixe and the image load time in the browser. Don uses Google's free Picassa3 software, which is an excellent photo management product. All of the photo albums of the Deuce, Grand National, and Auburn that are links on the NORG site were built using Picassa's web creation functions. And it's free? (THANKS to Don Clink for the info!)
  9. HOW DO I SHOW MY EMAIL ADDRESS ALONG WITH MY USERNAME? You can LogIn on the Forum, and select PREFERENCES. On this page Members can add optional information such as their City,State, Country; Occupation; Hobbies: list a Homepage; list AOL Instant Messanger Handle; Signature; "Make Email Address viewable to others;" and even change the number of Default Topics shown on a page. WHEN others click on your profile, they will see this information.

I have a June 18-73A. Original car, with original drive train and original interior. The car is like a time capsule, original mohair and even original exhaust, which leads me to believe that the 23,000 miles on the speedo, is not 123,000. Well interior wise, I'd like to put a nice set of front floor boards and floor mat in the car. It currently has a sheet of half inch plywood that someone masterfully made but isn't correct. I am wondering where I should go to get a set of floor boards, or must I make them. Also who sells the rubber floor mat for a 32 standard?

Another interior item to tackle is that one of the doors is missing the inside door handle. I have looked around but haven't been able to find a reproduction one that is for a standard. They seem to have a two ridge pattern. I have an interior photo, I know its not a close up, I will upload a close up when I get a chance.

Brad, I can't help with the floor mat , but you should get the floorboards from Roy Nacewicz. His boards are very correct. He can be reached at; www.fordbolts.com.

Brad,

Roy's floor boards are perfect and conform to the original engineering drawings right down to the direction of the grain in the plywood.

Rubber front mats for '32s have been out of production for a couple of years now. The best you can do for the present time is to post 'wanted' ads on this site and on fordbarn.com and keep an eye on eBay listings.

There are lots of excellent reproduction '32 inside door handles out there for sale (along with the '33-'34 type which you have been avoiding). At any point in time during the '32 model year, standard model inside door handles were the same as the deluxe versions (except those used on deluxe coupes for most of the model year). Try dickspadaro.com; he knows the difference.

Out of curiosity, what is a "18-73A"; a body type designation, perhaps?

Dave, the Ford designation for Brad's car is, as you know, B160, a 1932 Ford Fordor, which is also the designation for a 1932 Ford Fordor DeLuxe.

The designation Brad gave is the EFV8 designation for a Fordor Standard, which applies to all such models of all the years our club represents. Note that the 1932 Fordor DeLuxe is known within the club as an 18-73B, a distinction that Ford had not made at the time.

I tell you this with some authority, as the club car code system was my invention back in the 90's, known as the Expanded Legend. The original Legend leaving so many worthy cars unlisted in the Roster, our illustrious Greasepit Poet being the V8 Times Editor at the time, asked for a revision of the Legend to include more cars, as he was getting heat from the membership, one of whom being Harry Lee who came from Wichita to present his complaint in person at the National Director's Installation Meeting in California. Myself being a brand new Director, I volunteered to the amazement and disbelief of all those present. Little did I know that the task would be as difficult as it was, to code over 5000 (possible) different models, being limited by Bob McCoppin himself to only 6 digits per designation. I made several revisions over the years, the last to include the Meteor, the Monarch, and the Mercury 114. I do still regret however, the inclusion of both Roadsters and Phaetons of 1932 and 1933 in the same code without making the distinction of Standard/DeLuxe. Curiously, to this day nobody has called me on the omission, nor have I until this writing pointed out the deficiency.

Alan,

Aha! So, you're the culprit. Thanks for taking on that task way back when, but perhaps you could answer a question that many have posed to me (and I myself have). What was wrong with simply adopting Ford's designations, lock, stock, and barrel? The reason is not self-evident, unless the thought was that the membership could not handle the transition from body type numbers 35 to 710, etcetera. I hope not.

Dave, If you will remember, the original Legend took up less than a quarter page in the Roster, having so few listings available. Each listing consisting of 3 digits to designate year & manufacture, and 3 more to designate body type. There was an ongoing discussion of how large the Roster was getting, what with the surge in membership, and the listings of tech article page/issues. McCoppin had limited the space available due to the increased cost it would have been for what is called Perfect Binding method, which we later converted to anyway. I had 6 digits available for listings, and about a third of a page maximum to post the code itself, still in that form in the same place at the front of the Roster. To list all the variations of Ford codes together with years would have taken several pages itself, and require too much time for the members to decifer. I had to simplify as best I could, using a single form of code that could be common to all years and models. Obviously, more than a few became pure invention on my part, such as the Model 40 division of A & B to designate '33 & '34. You won't find such a distinction in Ford literature, although the evolution of parts will have a post-number letter code that generally agrees with my 40A and 40B.

As a side note, McCoppin had originally requested a means of identifying engine types included within the code. I tried, and even had it going for a short time, but gave it up as being far too much to handle given the variables that it introduced. I held my breath going into publication of the new code, hoping on acceptance by the membership, and was gratified that within 3 years, the transition proved successful, as it also had to be compatible with the old Legend until the new was in full use by all members.

Thanks guys, I am new to flatheads and 1932's. I am only 24, so when I tell people "I like model T's, model A's and Early ford V-8's" they look at me quite funny, especially folks my own age.

Dave, I was told you were the one who told my father about the car. It was in the Blue Field at Hershey in 1989. My Father is Robert Lowery, We're from Akron, OH. We're family friends with Bill Evans and the late Fred Lohman.

The car was driven for a year and then sat from 1990 to 2006, I drug it out of the garage, went over everything and got it ready for the 75th anniversary. it even has 30-40 year old tires on it.

It has been repainted and has funky painted wheels, but it's extremely solid.

Thank you guys for the advice, I'll be on here for more questions. Have to get it ready for the summer.

Brad,

I recall your car from the Deuce@75 event. It's a nice one. '32 Fordors are amongst my favorites as I think their styling proportions are excellent. I've a standard V-8 like yours; its restoration is much closer to completion than the attached photo conveys.

We're away from my junk for the winter, but if you can't locate a door handle by mid-April, please let me know as I'm sure that I have a spare, which you'd be welcome to.

Please give my regards to Bill; it has been too long since our paths have crossed. I think of Fred often. The '32 phaeton that I brought back from South America for him and ultimately bought back is well on its way
to completion.

Best regards,

Dave

I will give your regards to Bill, I see him monthly. He gave me the ride of my life in his 67 Corvette last summer. I think of Fred often too. Our family has his 1914 Ford that he won the AACA Senior in 71 with. Every time I crank it to go for a spin, I remember Fred.

We are regulars at the Old Car Festival and Motor Muster. We will have our 40 Wagon this year at the Motor Muster. If you come down, we'll grab a bite to eat and discuss Henry's 221 cubic inch wonder and the cars he put it in.
