shaft felt good and car ran very smooth and did not have any issues.

If the carb was used a lot, the shaft is probably loose in the body which will cause a vacuum leak that will at least affect idle. Check the fit before wasting money on a kit. Kits are available from lots of suppliers. Also new carbs are available.

Hate to rain on your parade, but Stenny is correct. That does NOT appear to be a LaSalle. If it is a LaSalle, then someone went to a lot of trouble to install a Packard front end. Actually, there was no 41 LaSalle, as Cadillac dropped the line in 1940. Attached is a photo of the last year (1940) LaSalle.

what is the brand of the carb kit and how much is the shipping to new jersey?. does it have all the parts for complete rebuild. like gaskets some small hard parts like needle and seat or excel pump?

mine ran fine just the fuel drained out if it sat for more then 4 days. carb is very clean. just i see the fuel slowly leaking from a small seal in the venture . so i would just rebuilt the whole thing . the pic i posted turn out to be a 1941 caddy lasalle. this would be sweet when it gets done.

Rebuilding a carb requires more than just replacing parts, particularly if it has sat for an extended period. The body must be immersed in an appropriate solution to remove any deposits or other crud that has accumulated, and passages must be inspected to be sure that they are clear. It is a given that only nitrile "fuel proof" parts be installed. We are seeing kits that have sat on a shelf too long. Most kits don't contain throttle shaft bushings or an oversize shaft. often necessary in an old carb, and many have sketchy instructions for those not familair with the process. In kits, as in most things, cheaper isn't always better.

I think that the snapshot is a '38 Packard Super 8 with a custom body. Pretty nice car to leave out in the elements.

We sell the carb kit that fits all the 94 style carbs from 39-53. It changed slightly after that. Our kit sells for $23.50 plus shipping..... Mac VP
