I just picked up a 1948 super deluxe inline L6. Thinking about doing an engine swap to a 302 or 350 small block. Im thinking that I have enough clearance to do so. If not what would yalls suggestions be and what about trans

Welcome, but, please remember, most of the folks here are "stockers", original cars and basically Flathead is spoken here. Another place to post your questions Is The Ford Barn or The H.A.M.B. I had a friend with a 41 with a 302 and c-4 trans, eventually he went back to an 8BA with Flat-o-matic. Best wishes on your project. Mike

As much as I hate a SBC in a Ford, that would be the easiest swap if you want to go with a later V8. While a SBF can be done the Chevy is much easier. As far as a trans goes a 350 automatic seems to be the choice hence the 350/350 combo you hear about in early Fords. If you want an O/D trans then consider the 200r or a T5 if you want to go with a manual. As said above your best place to get suggestions would be the Ford Barn or the HAMB. You can easily join both. Just read the forum rules first. And if you want to join the HAMB do an intro as suggested in the rules. Good luck Edit: I don't know the dimensions of the flathead six in your 48 but you might want to look into a Ford 300 six. Certainly different but the 300's are a d*mn good engine. Just a thought. ______________ No signature

Welcome, but you would probably get a better answer to your question here: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/forums/the-hokey-ass-message-board.5/ Charlie Stephens

The biggest issue you will have is the clearance between the driver side exhaust manifold and the steering box. Chassis Engineering has everything you would need such as engine and transmission mounts, and a kit to split the wishbones. As Charlie points out you can get more info from the jalopy journal site, your swap is fairly common.
