Hello, I am new to the forum and need some advice. I just bought a 1951 Victoria this morning. Where can I find vin tag decoding information? Thank for the help, Andy

I can't help you with your question, but congratulations on your beautiful car. I'll bet those good looking pups would like a ride. Welcome to the EF V8 forum!

Buy the Club's 49-51 book on this site. It will answer all of your questions.

v8er's suggestion is an excellent one. However, as a newbie to the Club, you might not have learned about all the good info that this site offers, and how to access it. To order your book, go to Online Store in the blue panel on the left of your screen, and click on the "Ford Books" link. Your book is shown on the second page of the link. Your Vickie is beautiful! Welcome to the EFV8CA. Tom

Andy, For sure, buy the 1949-1951 Ford Book form the Online Store tab. Also, your car should have a data plate. If you give us the information on that plate we can help you out. Ken

Open the hood, and look on your Victoria's firewall for the data plate that Ken is telling you about. There may also be a sequence of letters and numbers stamped into the painted cowl, above the horizontal pinch weld, more or less directly behind the air cleaner. That's a 1951 Ford firewall and engine room in the photo below.

The 49 to 51 Ford book will be an excellent resource for you. Van Pelt's web site is also a good source for VIN identification, parts drawings and more. VP is also a reputable supplier of parts. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_serialnumbers.htm From VP's site: The 1949-50 and early 1951 Ford passenger cars did not have a Patent Plate/VIN tag with any breakdown data for the specific car. Late 1951 models included a stamped data plate, which included the vehicle serial number and a production code (defining color, trim, etc). The date plate with serial number and production codes continued with 1952 models and thereafter. The data plate chart for 1949-59 has a limited amount of information for the 49-51 model years. More production code numbers/letters were stamped in the cowl (dash panel) of 1949 to early 1951 models. The Early Ford V8 Club of America has additional information for these in its 1949-51 Restorers Guide book. Station wagons from 1949 to 1951 had special serial number codes with the A prefix. There were exceptions on the wagon serial numbers.

OK, here goes, but not all of it seems to agree with published information. In your serial number, B = V-8, 1 = 1951, SP = St. Paul assembly plant, and 137491 is the sequence number of V-8’s assembled at that plant in the 1951 model year. The code below: 60 = Custom Victoria body code KR = Victoria paint code – Hawaiian Bronze lower, Sandpiper Tan upper AB = Tan Bedford Cord ensemble interior 26 = assembly date I = assembly month? (doesn’t make sense – Ford didn’t use I for month) 2 = Unknown 644 = unit production number that day Some of this may still be a mystery, but this should be close. Ken
