On my 46, that is the choke control. I'm missing the defrost control that is shown in your picture.

Don't throw that piece away. It may be able to be freed up. They were reproduced only for a very short period of time and good used or NOS are getting scarce.

It appears to be one of the two cables to operate the carburetor. Should have a letter on the face of the knob. T for throttle, C for choke.

48 ford cable - runs from dash thru firewall into engine bay - looks like the rubber piece at the end has been cut off - I dont want to destroy the cable at least until I know what its for
