FORUM RULES: Users agree to these Rules when using Forum.

The site administrator reserves the right to change the terms and conditions of the user agreement without prior notice to the user. It is the responsibility of the user to regularly review the terms of this agreement.

The user agrees to the following terms:

  1. All information that you provide to us for your membership is correct.
  2. You will not use your membership to spam, harrass, or exploit other members in any way.
  3. Vulgar, Abusive, Racist and Sexist Language will not be tolerated.
  4. Commercial-type sales postings will not be allowed.
  5. No mass posting or flooding of the boards is allowed.
  6. No Advertising of parts or cars; no Ebay or business/commercial ads (please use the "Classified" for ads Wanted or For Sale).
  7. VIEWING MULTIPLE TOPICS ON SCREEN: You can choose to see more than 10 Topics at a time ... Log In and choose "Preferences" from the top bar on the Forum page. Scroll down and Change the "Default Topics Returned" parameter to 25 or 50, and save the changes. Since this setting is stored in your browser 'cookies' (if enabled), it seems to use that stored value even if you are not logged in. So, if you use a PC that you haven't logged into the forum from, the setting still seem to remain at the default.
  8. EXTERNAL PHOTO LINKS ON FORUM: You can still use external photo links in your posts on the new forum. They follow the rules of any link in that they have to have the URL link qualified down to the full image file name (example: .jpg). The links will open in a new browser window, the same as an uploaded image attached to a post. Since an image attachment to any post does not display inline with the post, the results are the same. You can use multiple external links within a post. This link is from photos on a site from Don Clink's 'Deuce@75' albums:

    http://donclink.com/deuce_75_1/images/dscn2950.jpg

Using links from photo sites such as Photobucket can help in "size" issue with uploaded attachment files. For best viewing in web browsers, photos should be around the 800x600 pixel range, and probably not more than 1024x768. Most cameras today store HUGE jpg image files, as the default settings are in the 7, 8, 10, and 12Mb image sizes. The image files that are then attached are very large, and the browser can't display the full image size without using the scroll bars. Use the re-sizing functions of your photo editing software to reduce the image to 800x600, which reduces the file sixe and the image load time in the browser. Don uses Google's free Picassa3 software, which is an excellent photo management product. All of the photo albums of the Deuce, Grand National, and Auburn that are links on the NORG site were built using Picassa's web creation functions. And it's free? (THANKS to Don Clink for the info!)
  9. HOW DO I SHOW MY EMAIL ADDRESS ALONG WITH MY USERNAME? You can LogIn on the Forum, and select PREFERENCES. On this page Members can add optional information such as their City,State, Country; Occupation; Hobbies: list a Homepage; list AOL Instant Messanger Handle; Signature; "Make Email Address viewable to others;" and even change the number of Default Topics shown on a page. WHEN others click on your profile, they will see this information.

Old car guy here. I have a '38 Ford Standard that, unfortunately, was an innocent victim in a multi car accident a few weeks ago. I have learned that my car is one of those "1 year only" vehicles when it comes to sheet metal. I am in search of a driver side fender, hood side panel, and grille. I would like to find N.O.S. or very good if it is available.

If any of y'all have any leads or suggestions I would really appreciate your help.

OUCH! run a want ad on this site for parts and one on the Fordbarn. If any of the stainless trim is bent try to save it as it is made of "unobtanium" on a '38 standard. Some chrome shops can straighten stainless. Call around to the various Ford stores who have NOS parts. Try All Ford Parts in Campbell, California , Early Ford Store in San Dimas , California, and Third Gen Automotive in Tennessee. Looks like you may need a running board also.

I checked EBay - did search for "1938 Ford fenders" and "1938 Ford Grille". Got hits on both.

Take a look at what's on these searches yourself. There's a PAIR of Standard fenders for you to look at, and all the grilles appear to be all unrestored, so repairs and rechroming would probably be needed. Prices appear to be really high, but maybe not.

Sorry about your accident. Good luck on your parts search, getting the repairs done, and putting your 38 back on the road.

Tom

38 had some changes to the hood side panels so make sure what you need matches what is for sale. Suggest you get the 38-39 Ford restoration book from the v8 club. on this site. Fred at Southside Obsolete may have some of what you need. Look at his web site and call.

what a shame ,!!!
I would try EBAY. or a antique car parts flea market,
maybe you could use fiberglass parts for the time being if they make the fenders,
is the FRAME OK ? looks like it could be damaged,
I would take it to a good frame shop. to see if it is OK, they might be able to straighten it.if bent
good luck. hope this helps 37Ragtopman Maine
post a ad on this web site for parts wanted, for a Standard 38 FORD,

One problem with older cars is they don’t have the same safety standards as modern cars. It’s not that classic cars aren’t reliable, but the rate of car accidents severely increased in the last few decades, which correlates to the high number of drivers. Finding the car parts you need can be difficult, but I suggest searching for chain companies that sell classic car parts, like JEGS. I hope you’ll be able to find what you need. But I was wondering, how did you handle the accident? From the pictures attached it seems like it wasn’t your fault, did you solve the issue? I would suggest getting in touch with a car accident lawyer company like https://puschnguyen.com/houston-car-accident-lawyer/ to make sure you reach an agreement. Better safe than sorry.

38hotrod, unfortunately you have disabled your private messages. if you read this you should look at the San Francisco Craigslist. In the search box for auto parts put "1940" and you will see someone advertising some NOS Ford fenders. One fender appears to be a '38 standard left front fender.

I am sorry to see the damage to your car and hope that you were not hurt.

The 1938 Chassis Parts Catalog shows that all 1938 body styles and the 1939 Standard used the same front fenders.

It is hard to tell from your photos, but it looks like the hood side pane is repairable by a good metal man. The stainless trm also looks repairable.

I hope that you have good insurance, the truck driver's insurance will try to send you to a body shop that does parts replacement, so you may have to use your insurance to get the car fixed at a restoration shop that knows how to straighten metal.

I went through that in 2019. I had to use my insurance to get the car fixed. The truck driver's insurance tried to assign blame to me, even though I was stopped when he backed into me at a high rate of speed.
