Is there a way to test the unit without tank removal?

Only if the air line to the gauge and the gauge itself are in working order, otherwise the tank would have to be removed, which entails removing the tank itself as the oval access hole in the floor pan isn't large enough to remove the sending unit (unless you are referring to the under-seat tank used in commercial vehicles and big trucks where the sending unit inserts from the bottom and can be readily removed once the tank is emptied).

Dave I'm planning to clean the gauge with acetone and then re-fill/connect with the market kit. I was wondering of my chances that the sending unit would hold up it's end of the bargain...time will tell, I guess.
