Hoping for some help. My tail light directional flasher is out. A picture of the brake light and directional flasher is attached. The flasher bulb (on the right) does not seem removable and I think the bracket assembly is after market. Is anyone familiar with or know where I might find this bracket assembly that attaches to the inside of the tail light bucket? I am 6 volt positive ground and the car was equipped with a Signal-Stat 900 directional kit. Any help greatly appreciated. David Daoust Stratham, NH

Not sure why that bracket and bulbs are in the light. There was no need to make that change as the original dual filament bulb would have worked just fine. I have no idea where to find that bracket and are you sure the bulb cannot be removed? Push down on the bulb and twist to the left. Are you sure the bulb is bad? Have both signals quit working or just the one side? I would check for a bad ground to the tail lamp. If both signal lamps have stopped working you need to check for a fuse being out or the flasher has gone bad.

That bulb looks like a halogen bulb and you might have to push down on a locking tab to release the bulb. I have no idea where you might find a replacement bulb. If it were my car, I would revert to the stock setup with one dual filament bulb. The halogen bulbs draw much more current than the standard bulbs or LEDs and it would be beneficial to go back to stock. I don't know where you can get a good flasher for LED bulbs, but if you can find one the best solution is to put in a original type socket and use LED tail and stop lights.

When I got my ‘46 Deluxe, the PO or someone, had put a very similar bulb/socket in the tail lights. I removed them and put the standard two contact sockets in. I painted the inside of the housings gloss white, cleaned and checked the grounds cleaned the inside of the lenses and now have nice bright lights using standard bulbs.

That modern bulb on the right just pulls straight out, I'm pretty sure. I would use some thick protection and pull hard. If it breaks, just use needle nose pliers to remove the rest of it.

I've had good luck using the Super Bright Hi-Power 1154 incandescent bulb in the original taillight fixtures on my '40. They're rated at 50/14 cp, versus 21/3 cp for the standard 1154 bulb. They also work fine with my turn signals. I got them from https://store.candlepower.com/taillights.html.

I second both the Super Bright Hi-Power 1154 and painting the taillight buckets white. I did both and now the folks behind me can clearly see my taillights and brake lights. Highly recommend!
