my '47 came with unvented cap but I picked up 2 NOS ford vented caps. Have one left over.

If your new cap is vented, and they usually are, you should be okay.

my car: 1948 super deluxe v8 my q: is my gas tank supposed to be vented? I am about to install my new bob drake gas tank and sending unit. I am salvaging my filler hose but have a new gas cap (like OEM) and coupling between filler hose and new gas tank. I have new hard line fuel line, new fuel pump (like OEM), and new 9-inch rubber hose between pump and fuel supply line. Do I need to vent this gas tank? Is it vented automatically somehow by the new fuel pump? Please help.
