The controls look like the items below for 35-36 I believe the hole in the firewall mounted valve is the vent for the side without vacuum.

It appears you have the correct switch handle for the Columbia. The switch handle operates a valve mounted through the firewall under the hood. It also operates the speedometer changer under the dash. The second valve for shifting should be mounted on the transmission bell housing with linkage to the clutch pedal. To shift, while driving, depress the clutch pedal to the floor then move the dash control, then release the clutch pedal. The vent has to be on the firewall valve but I am not exactly sure where the vent hole,is located on the valve. This is a good question for John Connelly at "Columbia Two Speed" his Co. is now in Cottonwood, AZ with the same phone number. Shift problems can be related to the transmission clutch adjustment and the adjustment of the clutch operated vacuum valve. There is a procedure in the 35-36 installation booklet for checking the adjustments.

<<When the canister shifts where does the air in the opposite side of the leathers go?>> It pushes the piston toward the vacuum.

I'd like a photo of the actually controls beneath the hood. The actuating cable really doesn't matter at this point.
