ford vin information

iam restoring an old ford truck. i have what i think is the vin. could someone tell me how i can find what the numbers an letters mean. i think this is a 48 or 49 ford 2 ton truck but i need to know for sure.

ok thanks this what i have. 799ii4268i6 this is the vin on the frame an transmission. iam not sure hon accurate this is,the letters iam not sure if they are correct an the second nine iam not sure of. the numbers on the head were 59a-b and the number on the engine was b3733 with a big 59 under it. thanks for the help. this is just a chassis. i do not have a cab yet. i am trying to pinpoint what this is so i can get the rite year cab for it

The serial number that you posted is for a 1947 vehicle. The i is read as a 1. Your serial number should read 799A-1,426,816. The 59 is for an engine built between 1945 and 1948. I don't understand how that list can apply to '48 trucks which use the 8RT (8BA) engine.

Richard, you are correct regarding the '48 truck engine. The chart doesn't address that difference. Ed's truck, however, is a '47, which does have the 59 engine.

thank you very much for the info. the only correction is instead of an a it is a t at the end of the 99 for a 1 1/2 ton truck. Ed
