Pretty sure it was designed by Frankenstein.

I am glad that you figured it out. I thought that the shield was part of the socket. I cannot think of a more complicated way to attach the bulb and jewel. Are you sure this wasn't designed by Frankenstein?

Very interesting. That assembly is totally different than the passenger car except for the red jewel. I learn something every day about these old Fords.

Tom, the assembly is assembled and in place. The shield is the 2nd from lft, then spring that fits inside it, then the 4 legged plate that sits on spring, then the "cover plate. Compress all this into the shield, (can) and fold those tabs over, (the canister tabs). now the can has 4 sprring loaded tabs sticking out. Instrument panel of course needs to be out. Press this spring loaded canister against back of dash and fanagle the hi beam piece at hole in dash and slipping it into slot in the cover plate and Bob's your uncle, or words to that effect.

It looks like you have all of the parts except the shield. The Chassis Parts Catalogs for 1939, 1940 and 1942 do not have a drawing of the parts, so I don't know what the shield looks like. The Green Book says the parts for 1940-1947 are the same P/N, so maybe someone that has one of those years will have a better idea of what you need.

This is where the Hi beam goes. So far 11 yrs on this resto. Used 2 very old trucks to begin with. Both in severe bad shape.
