Howdy. If 1946, this would be a half ton (Commercial) or 1Ton (Express Tonner) No 3/4 tons in 1946. Hard to tell for sure with those hubcaps, can you take a photo of the box from the rear? Numbers should be on front of Left(Driver side) frame on top stamped into frame, no tag. I THINK this number is the VIN..... Rick

Your serial number can be one of two places. I say this as the pickup frames changed drastically in 1942, so ford may have changed locations for the number. You should check the top of the left frame rail near the front crossmember (1941) and check the top of the right frame rail near the front crossmember(1948). Hopefully someone with good knowledge of the '42-'47 pickups and trucks will chime in here for better advice.

Ken, Your answer is too short. You should have said "There are NO vin #'s on older ford vehicles, they were registered by their serial number. The concept of a VIN appeared in the fifties." I am still looking for a good ACRONYM for the serial number. If someone has a suggestion please post it or I will keep referring to the serial number as the VIN and ignore those who complain. Someone else will post the location of the serial number. On passenger cars the serial number was in the top of the left frame rail next to the steering but I am not sure if it is the same for the trucks, Randy might check and see if it is there.
