I have a 1941 Philco radio. I have the power lead from the fuse holder to the circuit breaker. I know at the radio end there are the hot wire and a ground wire. The hot wire is covered with a bearded ground wire that exits the radio and clamped down to the case. from there the hot wire with the bearded ground wire are covered by a cloth bearded covering. What I need to know is the length of the wire from the clamp to the fuse holder. I also need to know where the ground wire exits/ how long is it after it exits/ and where does the ground wire connect to? Any help please. Thanks.

Someone suggested that the outer ground wire may have ended at the fuse and was there to reduce static getting to the radio. Any insite?

Most of the early Ford radios used the supporting members for ground and did not have an external ground wire. That is true of 1940. For 40 the power wire is just an insulated wire, with a fuse in line and not covered with braiding. Suggest looking at the radio schematic diagram. Most of the time braided wires are for the antenna.

I was able to talk to a radio rebuilder. He said the breaded wire was wrapped over the power wire and dead ended at the fuse holder and was used to protect radio from static.
