Just wondering if anyone knows if the bumpers off of a 47 Ford will work for the above Car. Anyone I have talked to in person around here, half have said yes and the other have said totally different bumper so could use a little help. Also have the old bumpers but for the price of re chrome thought that could buy some repos from someplace if they are interchangeable Thankx Brent

Brent: Finding even repro bumpers seems to be difficult today. I needed one for the rear of my '47 Ford, and all the usual vendors couldn't supply it. I finally bought one from the "Bumper Boyz", and it had excellent plating on both the face bar and the guards. I didn't have to supply the old ones, either. They have a web site, and often display at swap meets. Certainly, the price was right.

Brent, The 114 is identical to the Ford but for various trim items. I suspect that the bumper is interchangeable also, but cannot attest to it. Super's recommendation of The Bumper Boyz is a good one. If your bumper is in good shape, I'd think that's your best source for rechrome.

I guess there is a difference here is the reply from Bumper Boyz Hi The 1946-8 Mercury bumpers are different than a 46-8 Ford bumpers. The mercury bumpers are much wider and heavier than the narrow sleek Ford bumpers. Just thought I would post for any future reference Brent

Here is a photo of a 114 Mercury. As you can see there are several trim differences between it and a US Mercury. --- My Mercury Chassis Parts catalog does not include the 114 Mercury. Maybe one of our Canadian friends can supply the correct answer to your question. Tom

Brent, the response you got from the Bumper Boyz refers to the American Mercury. The Canadian Mercury "114" is basically just a Ford with different trim.

Brent, I would replate your original bumpers. They are spring steel and the repos are not.n Replating the originals will assure you that you have the correct bumpers on your car.
