Heater hoses were cord reinforced black rubber and had no identifying markings. While the inside diameter was a nominal 5/8”, the outside diameter was approximately 1”. This outside diameter provided a seal against engine noises entering the vehicle when the hose was pushed firmly through the dash panel (firewall) holes provided for the heater core tubes. Modern hose, with a nominal inside diameter of 5/8”, most often has a smaller outside diameter. Consequently, it will not provide the intended seal against engine noises. You might try McMaster-Carr. Lacquer thinner will remove any ink from modern hose. Here's the link to what you want. They are super good to deal with. The standard 5/8" heater hose should work fine on your Early Ford V-8. Provided you are not concerned about being correct for show purposes, you can use the modern screw type of heater hose clamps which will function and provide a leak-free connection.

Are there any recommendations for heater hose that is like the original? I bought some OEM style hater hose clamps that seem too big for the standard generic hose. Or should I get smaller clamps? Thanks, Gil
