Hello, newbe here but I have enjoyed working on old cars for over 60 years. I have read in several articles that the 60 HP transmission will not bolt to the 85 HP block. My 40 Coupe has serial number starting with 54 stamped into the frame and transmission case. The original owner told me 60 HP motor was removed and replaced with a 85 HP engine. The engine I removed has 24 head stud bolts and the number 81A stamped on the block. The transmission I unhooked from the block has the matching 54 serial number that is stamped on the frame. So my question is is the statement 60 HP transmission will not bolt to a 85 HP block incorrect? Apparently it is. Thanks for any input and I have a lot more questions to come.

Yes, a V8-60 transmission will bolt up to a Ford 85 HP V-8 engine from the same era. The bolt patterns are identical.

That 60 hp trans is a lot smaller then the 85-90 trans, you might find it too weak, for your purpose, a 40 -48 trans for 90 hp would be better, if go to open drive shaft, a 42 52 FORD PICK UP TRANS is what you need if you want a floor shifter t or a column shifter, for a bolt it, my 2 cents 37Ragtopman
