My 32 trans drops out of second which apparently is a fairly common problem and before I pull it out for inspection (32s have to come out the front which is a pain), I thought maybe a new detent spring would have some effect. Well it took some time trying to walk that screw out and it finally moved...came out...and nothing in the recess. So, is the plug itself supposed to apply moderate pressure or am I simply missing the screw and ball? Thanks for any help.

There's supposed to be a plunger (B-7233) and spring (B-7234) behind that plug. Those might be something of a challenge to find as loose parts and it may be easier to find a shift lever housing with those components intact. The jumping out of second gear, especially when decelerating is a very common problem and the cure may require more than the replacement of those two parts.
