I've always heard that you should use a non detergent oil on engines without an oil filter, so that the impurities will settle to the bottom of the pan and not be circulated through the engine. I'd like to hear others' views on this. I too use 140 wt in the trans. and rear end, and keep the oil level about 3/4" below the fill hole.

No reason not to use the oil, I use a 10W-30 in my car. I use 140W GL-5 gear oil in my trans and rear end and that should keep your car happy.

I use a synthetic blend 10-40 in my Model A and hasn't yet complained. I plan on doing the same in my new '36, any reasons not to? Also, what type of gear oil is used in the transmission and rear axle. Thanks in advance, John
