After shifting, and accelerating, my 34 Ford hiccups through the carb and may also backfire through the exhaust. Any ideas? I know of a small exhaust leak near the crossover pipe. Could this be a factor? Thanks in advance.

Could be 1 or more sticky valves, try some MMO down the carb and some in the gas tank. Fix the exhaust leak first. Or carb needs a rebuild and dist needs checking. Could be a multitude of reasons ?? ken ct usa

It is often caused by a vacuum leak caused by worn throttle shaft bushings and/or shaft. Backfiring is most often due to a vacuum leak in or around the carb.

Thanks, I'm working on the exhaust leak. I will check for vacuum leak, too. Distributor and carb are sorted, so can rule tem out.
