My eyes were the ones that were not working. I misread Alan's post.

Thanks Alan for the feedback. I appreciate the detail on assembly also very much. Tom, Alan was remarking that my topic posting, "Cigar Lighter" was correct, as cigarette was not a term used back in Henry's vocabulary.

Alan, Either my eyes or your are not working as I did not find any reference to a cigarette lighter in the original post

John, The element is a standard 6V element to be found at the usual Antique Ford suppliers, or maybe even at Napa. Don't pay the price they ask for the short '40 lighter, as this one isn't hard to find. Either a manual or an automatic element will be correct, as the automatic was available as an option. The knob is made by Dennis Carpenter, and is also available at the usual suppliers. The kicker here, though, is that the element you will most likely find is not as original, requiring a center bolt (6/32 if I remember right) mount, while the knob is made as original, with an outer threaded portion of the plastic. You'll need to drill out the center of the knob, and install a bolt of the proper size with JB Weld. The finished result will look and operate as original. BTW, The title of your posting is totally correct, as there were no cigarette lighters in early Fords. Old Henry respected a man who smoked a cigar, but would as soon fire a man who smoked cigarettes.

Missing the Knob/element portion of my lighter on a "standard" 38 coupe. The bucket portion is still in the dash. Are the knob/element hard to find? Any resources known would be grateful. Cuno Engineering and Casco Products were the two design manufactures at the time. The complete element and bucket (holder)assembly carried part number 81A-701638-A. Thanks johntesch@aol.com
