i have purchased a re-chromed grill for my 51 ford. the pannels behind the chromed middle bar and bullets are in primer and will need to be painted. Does anyone know the exact color they were? Grey? Silver? what shade, etc. dull or enamal ? Hope i've made myself clear. thanks. Tom.

Tom, I think it was a silver color, but I am not sure of the shade. The Club's 49-51 Restoration book would be a big help to you. It can be purchased on this site or at http://www.fordv8foundation.org/restobooks.html

The color is called, "Argent" and it is described as, "a satin chrome color".

Everybody repeat after me: The satin sliver trim paint paint used by Ford is called argent. Thank-you. Seriously, Ford must have used many million of gallons of that stuff. It's on grilles, behind grilles, on heater trim, on truck dash boards, on instruments, on mirrors, on dome lights, on parking lights, on headlight doors, on wheels, etc., etc. Ford still uses it.

Argent spray paint can be found at any store that carries Mustang parts.
