VIEWING MULTIPLE TOPICS ON SCREEN: You can choose to see more than 10 Topics at a time ... Log In and choose "Preferences" from the top bar on the Forum page. Scroll down and Change the "Default Topics Returned" parameter to 25 or 50, and save the changes. Since this setting is stored in your browser 'cookies' (if enabled), it seems to use that stored value even if you are not logged in. So, if you use a PC that you haven't logged into the forum from, the setting still seem to remain at the default.
EXTERNAL PHOTO LINKS ON FORUM: You can still use external photo links in your posts on the new forum. They follow the rules of any link in that they have to have the URL link qualified down to the full image file name (example: .jpg). The links will open in a new browser window, the same as an uploaded image attached to a post. Since an image attachment to any post does not display inline with the post, the results are the same. You can use multiple external links within a post. This link is from photos on a site from Don Clink's 'Deuce@75' albums:

Using links from photo sites such as Photobucket can help in "size" issue with uploaded attachment files. For best viewing in web browsers, photos should be around the 800x600 pixel range, and probably not more than 1024x768. Most cameras today store HUGE jpg image files, as the default settings are in the 7, 8, 10, and 12Mb image sizes. The image files that are then attached are very large, and the browser can't display the full image size without using the scroll bars. Use the re-sizing functions of your photo editing software to reduce the image to 800x600, which reduces the file sixe and the image load time in the browser. Don uses Google's free Picassa3 software, which is an excellent photo management product. All of the photo albums of the Deuce, Grand National, and Auburn that are links on the NORG site were built using Picassa's web creation functions. And it's free? (THANKS to Don Clink for the info!)
HOW DO I SHOW MY EMAIL ADDRESS ALONG WITH MY USERNAME? You can LogIn on the Forum, and select PREFERENCES. On this page Members can add optional information such as their City,State, Country; Occupation; Hobbies: list a Homepage; list AOL Instant Messanger Handle; Signature; "Make Email Address viewable to others;" and even change the number of Default Topics shown on a page. WHEN others click on your profile, they will see this information.

If you believe the dipstick and the tube it fits in are original to the engine and you are changing the oil filter with the oil, a safe bet would be to install 5 quarts of oil in the engine. Once you have done this, you can put a scribe mark on the dipstick so you will know when the crankcase is full.

there is probably controversy over whether the '51 239 takes 4 or 5qts with filter. Tom.

If the brake fluid is not DOT (silicone), I would flush the system. DOT 3 or 4 fluid goes bad over 5 years.

One oil that I found worked in my 1953 Ford Flathead was Pennzoil straight SAE 30 detergent API Service SN or later rating.

Use of the above listed oil with Red Line Engine Oil Break-In Additive will protect your flat tappet valvetrain components. This additive contains the ZDDP additive package that is missing from modern oils. Modern vehicles have either roller tappets or roller finger follower valvetrains that don't require the zinc and phosphorus additives required by our older engines.

Modern vehicles also employ catalytic converters to reduce exhaust emissions. The zinc and phosphorus additives can contaminate the catalysts so they have been eliminated from modern oils.

You can purchase a Fram C4 oil filter from your local AutoZone auto parts store.

Thanks nelsb, i have all those things on my list i just thought i would shake the shed for more ideas. will get the '51 prob. end of this week. my old '37 kept me busy but with all my health issues making it hard to keep maint. up on the old girl and hard to find a shop locally to work on '30s cars what i cant do any more. so i decided to step up a few model yrs to my birth year. my first car when i was 14 yrs old was a '51 chevy. i don remember it having a bypass oil filter like this '51 crestline victoria does. ive allready went to napa and oreillys for stuff.each of those oil filters are slightly different as in rubber gromments at each end and the wix from oreillys has two diff. size large canister lid gaskets.both of them listed for the '51. and car has been converted to 12volt. im sure i will have a lot more questions from the shoebox guys. thanks again for your help. If it is new to you......
transmission fluid level
rear axle fluid level

air pressure in the tires
if it didn't drive onto your property, then spark, fuel and battery
radiator level
fuel pump filter (clean out and look at residue in glass)
brake master cylinder level (need to remove the driver's door sill, floor mat and metal circle over top of master cylinder)

brake light switch
lights

This will get you started in knowing your vehicle

I'm replacing my old '37 fordor with a '51 two door ht 239cu.in. 8ba. i plan on changing the oil and filter right away. and adjusting things,you know. i watched 1 video is all i could find. i would like some advice with that procedure. thanks in advance. Tom.
