Just purchased a Mercury battery embossed with the Mercury logo. It is an AGM battery inside the original style Mercury battery sh*ll for show. This a 1947 Mercury 6 volt system positive ground. Will the original generator properly charge this battery. I have an AGM maintenance charger when not driving the car. thanks

Assuming generator is functioning properly and wiring is correct, the answer to your question is yes. I've had success with my '39 and '50 Ford coupes using this exact setup.

I concur. I have a 35 with the 6V redtop Optima... rebuilt generator and solid state cutout. .. charges well. with no problems... If it sits I attach a battery tender 6v which works with the Optima closed cell... One reason that I chose the Optima was to fit it in the battery well just under the driver foot. Currently available Wet cell battery posts stick up to high and need protection... I just lay the Optima in its side (At an angle) and the cover fits well.
