How do you tighten the generator belt easily? I got the fan belt tight but now the generator belt is a little loose... is there a way to pry up the piece that holds the generator without loosening the large bolt that holds it..............

A small block of wood under the generator provides the leverage for a pry bar while tightening the bolt that holds the generator in place.

Loosen the 2 bolts that old the fan, loosen the big nut that holds the generator, pry up the generator to tighten the belt, tighten the big nut. Then pry up the fan to tighten the fan belt, tighten both nuts. The belts should have a 1/2" deflection halfway between the pulleys. I believe Shoebox Central has a video showing the procedure.

what is the website? The generator belt seems to be too close to the fan belt and pulley. If you look from the side the generator belt looks like its on an angle to the generator. Am I missing something. The generator is set in the little recess on the bracket and then the clamp is attached. but it seems to far out. I really need help. I got a new generator and it looks exactly like the old one for a 1953 239 engine

Would you be able to post a picture so we can see exactly what you mean? Ken

Not now...I took it apart again...is it possible the bracket holding the generator is on backwards? What O ,mean is if you lokk from the driver's side and look at the belt, the belt is too close to the fan belt and pulley.

There is a bolt that holds down the strap to the mount. It should be on the passenger side. Is that where yours is? Ken

yes...but there is also a pin sticking up on the bracket that I think the generator must sit on...but if you place the generator a little far back it wouldn't sit on the pin...also I forgot to say that this has 3 pulleys off the cam shaft...because it is the first year for the power steering and and it has the power steering belt...

The generator usually has two holes in the bottom for the pin. Could you have it in the wrong hole? Ken

Here is a link to the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUTyCyh4jsA Here is a link to a photo of a 53 with power steering https://media.invisioncic.com/r277599/monthly_10_2011/post-37975-143138692333.jpg The power steering belt is adjusted by it self, and does not affect the generator or fan belt tension. Post photos so we can see the problem.
