Also, be sure to use only the coil that Pertronix recommends.

Hi James, Saw your pictures and questions about your 41 Ford. Very nice. I read that you converted to pertronix ignition with 12 v . I have been thinking of doing the same and wondered how you like it and what was the Pertronix part number for the kit. What coil and wires did you use. I read that solid core wires are not recommended. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks . 42OINK

JamesT, According to Joe Abbin's "Ford & Mercury Flathead V-8 Identification & Rebuilder's Guide", "In 1941 a rope-type rear seal became available for commercial applications". To get more information on how to install the rope seal on your engine if it came originally with the oil slinger or labyrinth seal, it is recommended that you obtain the previously mentioned book from Joe of Roadrunner Engineering 505-268-6768, www.roadrunnerengineering.com

Apologize for the upside down photos. We thought we had fixed that issue in our software. Apparently not.

"Like a Harley, if it's leaking that means it has oil in it." Yeah, they all leak some. Some more than others. Not just Fords, I think all cars of this era. A new rear main seal would likely begin leaking a little within 1,000 miles. Hence the weep hole with cotter pin. Typical Ford engineering: simple, cheap, effective. I keep cardboard on the garage floor. Easy enough to change out couple times a year. When parked on the driveway, I slip a piece of cardboard under the car. When visiting someone I stay off their driveway, park on the street.

Thank you for the clarification on the oil seal. Anyone have thoughts about maybe drilling and tapping that weep hole and connecting a catch can? Maybe I'm being over anal about it, it really doesn't drip alone. Like a Harley, if it's leaking that means it has oil in it. Yes I did a 12v conversion and added the pertronix electronic ignition. Starts right up every time. I just got the Dakota Digital Dash for X-mas, starting that install today. Pictures: I noticed they imported upside down, I went back and turned them upside down before importing, but they still came in upside down, any ideas?

There is a rear seal, but they do have a tendency to seep a bit. The hole in the bottom of the housing allows oil to drain so the clutch doesn’t become soaked in oil. The cotter pin in the hole moves around and keeps the hole from getting plugged. Someone once said that old Fords are like dogs, and they like to mark their spots. I noticed you have a Powermaster alternator in place of the standard generator. I have a 6V + ground on my 59AB in my ‘46 Coupe and it works well. Your car looks good, and welcome to the EFV8 Club. For some reason, your pictures posted upside down.

Hello Everyone! I have what I believe to be a period correct flathead V8 in my Super Deluxe. I have several questions but will just start with one for now. It has the v8 where the bell housing is part of the engine block, it has a weep hole in the bottom with a cover pin in it. Does this engine have a rear main seal, or is it a "slinger" type oiling system? Car runs great and looks great, just can't stand the oil leak
