EDIT: I have added Photos of my car below. I recently bought my first old car, a 1934 Ford cabriolet. The car was being restored but was not finished, so I am trying to finish this project. I have a couple of questions I hope someone can help me with. 1) any suggestions for outside review mirrors? All of the mirrors I have found are the type that clip on a door or fender molding edge. The 34 has suicide doors and it is a cabriolet, so these types do not work. 2)I need a passenger side window regulator. 3)The previous owner had already switched from a 6-volt generator to a 12-volt alternator system. The alternator looks like a standard single wire GM alternator with a pulley on the end. The problem is I know an alternator has to spin faster than a generator, so I get a lot of wind noise from the blades going down the road. Also, I get a winning squealing type of noise from the generator. I suspect that noise may be due to the horizontal pull on the alternator shaft that the fan blades are creating trying to pull it forward. Any suggestions on the best set up for this 12-volt system. I am trying to build a good dependable driver, so I do not mind going to an electric fan if that is the best set up . Thanks for any help.

Provided you have enough room behind the radiator, your best bet might be to use an electric radiator cooling fan. One source for these is Fifth Avenue Antique Auto Parts. Their website is www.fifthaveinternetgarage.com

What engine do you have in the car? I think I would look at a '39 standard fan (or thereabouts) converted to 12 volts but see what other people say. It is maybe just me but I don't like the look of an alternator on an old Ford. Also I worry (maybe it is just me) about the load on the front bearing if a fan is mounted on the front of the alternator. You say you get a winning(sp) squealing type noise from the generator, the previous owner probably put it in the trunk when he converted to an alternator and it's unhappy. Move it to the garage and it will probably be quiet. If you meant to say alternator the noise is probably a bearing failing due to the load from the fan or the belt is slipping. Sounds like a good project and welcome to the site How about some photos? Charlie Stephens

If your car has a side mount spare tire on the left side, you can use one of the side mount mirrors offered by Obsolete and Classic auto parts. https://ford.obsoleteandclassicautoparts.com/catalog/early-ford-v8?qad=13s6612849hoWx94Z24W48F924Ws9r45885Q3G7EYqaR#page/153

If you have the regulator and it is broken, it is best to repair it.

Mate, I would change it back to 6v, and put the stock generator and fan back on. I have two old fords, a 33 sedan and 34 coupe, both with the stock system both do lots of miles, most on back roads so they need to be reliable, last two trips one 4600 kms in the 33 towing a caravan and the other in the 34 4400 kms. they work fine , Lawrie

thanks everyone for your suggestions. Carcrazy thanks for letting me know about fifthaveinternetgarage. I have participated in 3 great races and I did the spring rally this year. I bought this car to have fun with at local events but also to do the great race, so I think Randy at fifthave will be a lot of help. Im still looking for any ideas for outside rearview mirrors and passenger window regulator if any of you know someone who has that. Thanks again
