I went the EJWhitney route that 51504bat mentioned several years ago and have been very pleased with the alternator. It even has a correct-style pulley.

It's very likely the bearings. An electrical shop could replace them. Although perhaps not needed, they could also replace the diodes while they're at it. We are lucky to have a great shop here.

This company does conversions. Don't know if they do repairs or not. https://ejwhitneyco.com/automotive.html

Texas. After 10 years, and the unit is still charging your battery, I would suspect the bearings are the issue. The bearings are likely a common size, and should be fairly easy to change if you are a bit handy with tools.

Ten years (or more) ago I had L D Becker in Ohio to modify my 40 Ford generator to incorporate the stock mount to a 6v positive alternator. Does anyone know if that shop is still operating and still willing to do the mods. I tried to call their number from the website but was told its not in service. My alternator has developed a high pitch squeal and I would like to get advice on getting it repaired. Its still putting out 7.4 volts .
