My battery had had acid on the top; so I put baking soda on it to kill it; and a friend helped me pull the battery, and wash it all.(Battery, tray , and hold down .) While I was putting tools away; he hooked it all back up. The next day I started the motor and noticed the charge gauge on the dash showed DISCHARGE!! When I reved the motor it discharged even more!! Then lo and behold I raised the hood and he had put the (-) to ground; and( (+) to solenoid! All FORD cars through 1955; are 6v + ground.! I then made it (+) ground; (-) solenoid. Then I polarized it (motor off!)with a jumper wire; on the regulator between ARM and BATT; AND GOT THAT SPARK! on the regulator. When I started the motor; it still showed DISCHARGE!! HELP!!

Sounds like you did everything right. After starting, did you rev the engine some to get the generator generating?
