Bill, Does that carpet occupy that imbossed square in the rubber 17" W X 15" high tapered inward on the outside edge?

I installed the carpet inserts by sewing them to the back of the rubber mat and then cutting the rubber away with a sharp razor. This gives a nice clean edge of the rubber next to the stitching, and exposed the carpet.

Has anyone succeeded in installing front carpet inserts in '46-'48 cars? Was that a factory option? Remember pictures of those long ago.
