I can't seem to get my 48 ford 2dr with the 239 to idle, carb has been rebuild and is clean, I pulled distributor off for something to do and every thing there looks fine , could I have vacuum leak somewhere, starts well ,but won't idle , motor sound strong but defiantly has a miss. Help. Johna

What diagnostic tests have you done? Have you checked the manifold vacuum with a vacuum gauge? Have you checked the compression of each cylinder with a compression gauge? You could have a valve sticking. If it is an intake valve, you will get backfires through the carburetor. If an exhaust valve is sticking, the engine may seem to just have a miss.

Have you checked that the linkage to the carb operated smoothly?

when I pulled carb, lots of gas came dripping out, like it wasn't getting vaporized,
