Driving my stock 46 coupe every day past 4 months with no problem. Starts easy, runs smooth and strong. Only recent work was about 3 weeks ago, replaced braided ground cable with new round cable. Suggested on this forum. Used steel wool to make clean and bright connect to frame. No problem, has been running fine. Today, started an intermittent skip, as if entire ignition system has quit for just a second. Don't want to wait for complete failure away from home. Verified cables are clean and tight on a good battery. Ground cable remains clean and tight at frame, connections are tight at solenoid, on coil, into distributor, and at each spark plug, plus generator and voltage regulator. Both have been rebuilt last year. New wiring harness installed two years ago . Am going to pull the ignition switch today and will appreciate any other thoughts..

I would replace the battery grounding cable with the correct 9.5" braided cable and the one from the firewall to the engine with the correct 9" braided cable. They are designed for this purpose. The ignition switch could be a cause of your problem. The way that I test them is to vibrate the switch by tapping on the switch with a screwdriver handle while watching a voltmeter or listening for the miss. A rare cause of this problem is the condenser and the lead into the distributor.

remove the "can" on back and clean the contents, there is a carbon contact and a brass contact. also check for ballast resitor connections under dash
