I thought I had some gas leakage at the base of my carburetor (94 dual downdraft) on my 47 V8 so I removed the carburetor, cleaned everything with carburetor fluid and reassembled with new gaskets. Started car and has a loud high pitched whistle from carb. If I rock the air cleaner back and forth pitch of whistle will change as I move air cleaner. One one occasion I removed the vacuum hose from the wiper motor and whistle stopped but came back quickly and not able to repeat that. Spraying carburetor fluid around base of carburetor and air horn has no effect. Spray some fluid down carb throat momentarily decreases whistle, especially spraying on driver side and rear of carb throat. I suppose I must have done something wrong on the reassembly of the carb and will have to take it part again. Any thoughts ?

Weren't you advised to check the front screw holding the base to the body? Have you done that?

Remove the carburetor airhorn assembly from the main body. The gasket which fits between these two parts may have been installed upside down causing a vacuum leak which can produce the high pitched whistle.

All screws and bolts were tightened and retightened several times.

I will re-install that air horn gasket. I assumed that both sides of the gasket were the same. Thanks.
