1937 Tire balancing

Yesterday, I took my 1937 on a ride of nearly 100 miles. Seems to work pretty well. This was it's first real shake down test since the engine was rebuilt. I noticed three things that may need attention. 1. The 1st is that there was some minor vibration in the front. I'm thinking wheel balancing. I have the original wheels that have the wide bolt pattern. Can these wheels/tires be balanced at a modern tire store? 2. I seem to have a little clutch chatter. I checked the two rods from the back of the engine to the body and they seem tight. I have new engine mounts. How tight should the nuts be on these mounts? I did reuse the clutch plate and disc, but they seemed OK. I thought maybe I was babying the clutch to much and this caused the chatter. If I got on the it a little the chatter was not there. 3. The generator stopped on the way home. This turned out to be the cutout in the regulator. I have a later model generator/regulator on this engine. For some reason the cutout contact doesn't make up all the time. Cleaned the contact and it seems to work now. Anyway any ideas on balancing tires and the clutch chatter? Thanks Mike

To balance the wheels at a modern tire store you will have to provide them (the store) with a Wide Five Wheel Adapter like this one that Speedway sells > https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Wide-5-Wheel-Adapter-5-on-4-1-2-and-5-on-5-Inch,3444.html

Speedway sells an adapter plate. Do a permanent balance on the plate first with a drill instead of weights. Use all 5 stud nuts, and remember also, wheels themselves can be out of balance, so change position of a badly balanced tire to take advantage of the wheel's balance issue.

I used a front brake drum with the bearings removed, use 5 lug nuts, balance the drum first, worked for me on a modern spin balancer, for my 38, no more vibrating

I'm with Alan on this one. Many folks will tell you there is no need to balance the plate from Speedway. They would be incorrect. The plate MUST be balanced.

Some tire stores stiil have one of those on the car balancers that spin the wheel on th car. It tells them where to put the weights.

1937 Tire balancing, I bought one of those big 5 adapter, to balance my wheels bought new nuts tried it on a spin balancr and a bubble balancer, did not seem to me it worked, the big 5 adapter, seems to me it, is out of balance, seems like for the money it should have come balanced , SAVE YOUR MONEY , is my opinion I think using a old brake drum is the way to go, FORD balanced the brake drums at the factory when I get the chance I will use a old brake drum or one that is on the car, My 2 cents 37Ragtopman,

How EXACTLY do you balance the adapter plate? One comment says “with a drill.” ???
