Thanks Carcrazy, I'll check my pump and make sure it's the original.

Two things to be aware of with the labyrinth seals are: do not overfill the crankcase with oil and do not use the later high volume and pressure oil pump. If you overhaul the engine, you must use the original 50PSI oil pump or you will have a massive leak past the rear main bearing anytime the engine is running!

Thanks Kube! Mine has no cotter pin in the hole so I guess I need to put one in.

There's no seal there... it will drip, they all drip. If you look at your oil pan, there should be a large cotter pin dangling through a hole down there. Believe it or not, the pin was placed there to rattle and keep the hole open so oil going past the slinger would run out to the roadway through that hole.

I'm having trouble fitting the rope in the rear main seal. One of the lips on my crank wants to sit down inside where the rope is supposed to go. It doesn't seem right. My friend was saying it may be a different type of seal I need like rubber. Here's some pics hopefully someone can give me some pointers. Edit: Just found some info maybe I have what is called a Labyrinth rear main seal that has no rubber or seal of any kind? http://www.reds-headers.com/html/red_s_engine_talk_24.html Too bad the illistration in the article is broken so I can't 100% confirm it yet but I'm guessing that is the kind I have. So when I confirm that my next questions would be...do I use it? Do I get my crank machined so it can accept a rope seal? How much oil loss we talkin here? I mean if it's originally like that how bad can it be?
