I have a 41 flat v8 that's rebuilt and when turning over it blows back thru the carb. Is cam 180 out or valves stuck?

Had a friend in the 60s who's cam in his Ch--- 6 cyl was 180 degrees out & that's exactly what it did.

hi being the engine is rebuilt ,I hope by a engine re builder that knows what he is doing, I would start here and take a compression test, or leak down test to see what exactly is the problem, I would bank on stuck intake valve, [USE MARVEL MYSTERY OIL to fix this problem, drip into engine while running, also add to gas, to keep this problem from happening, maybe 4 oz to a tank, do this outside,,, you can also while the engine is running,[ you never said if you had it running ] use a insulated pliers and remove one spark plug at a time and see if that make a difference, if it does that cylinder is the problem all I can say is you have to diagnose to problem so you know what to do, also a spray jet not working will pop though the carburetor when running on acceleration ,but will idle my 2 cents 37RAGTOPMAN

If it blows back for every cylinder as the engine is turned over. the cam shaft is out of phase. If it is limited to one cylinder, an intake valve is stuck open. Put your finger over the spark plug holes until you find the leaking cylinder, if it is only one. More than one means the cam timing is off. As us old guys leave, good rebuilds are getting scarce.
