how to tell if my 1948 Ford Engine is a 1948

it is over a year now and I have a 1936 Ford 2 door sedan I was told is has a 1948 Ford engine in it ?? How can I tell if it is were would you look for serial numbers on the engine ?/ the the head is cast 59A-B someone out there has got to know

There are no serial no serial numbers on a '48 Ford engine. As for the engine you have, 24 stud and 59AB heads it could well be a '46-48 engine. But parts do get shuffled around over time. If you can read the top of the bell housing it should say "59." Tom

a 46-48 engine also has a 2 bolt dist

If it has 59A on the heads, it would have 24 studs.
