Kindly disregard my last...... gentlemen. Thinking back to something someone told me when i was a youngster, I gave the meter a sharp rap with my fist at it's dash position. Presto!! Mystery solved! It jumped to life, and is now operating exactly as it should. Well, I guess a 73 year old car is entitled to be just a little cranky now and then, considering the dust and tiny bits of corrosion accumulated over those long years. In any event, she and I are once again on the same planet, and looking forward to our usual Sunday drive. Have a safe Memorial Day.

About 3 months ago I gave i[ up on Optima and installed a high quality Duracell lead acid battery in my stock 46. It has been great, excepting this morning when it was completely dead. I checked to be sure I had not left the ignition or any light on No. Tested for any drain at the battery - none. I put it on a slow charge and after two hours it would not drop below 2 amps charging. A voltmeter shows a reading of just above 6 volts. Starts right up, with bright lights, engine running or not. HOWEVER - previously my amp meter registered a slight charge at idle, and the expected discharge with lights or radio on was easily picked up with an increase in revs.Working as it should. Now the meter needle is slightly on charge, and does not move, lights or radio on or off, engine running or not. Appreciate any suggestions as to what has happened.
