FORUM RULES: Users agree to these Rules when using Forum.

The site administrator reserves the right to change the terms and conditions of the user agreement without prior notice to the user. It is the responsibility of the user to regularly review the terms of this agreement.

The user agrees to the following terms:

  1. All information that you provide to us for your membership is correct.
  2. You will not use your membership to spam, harrass, or exploit other members in any way.
  3. Vulgar, Abusive, Racist and Sexist Language will not be tolerated.
  4. Commercial-type sales postings will not be allowed.
  5. No mass posting or flooding of the boards is allowed.
  6. No Advertising of parts or cars; no Ebay or business/commercial ads (please use the "Classified" for ads Wanted or For Sale).
  7. VIEWING MULTIPLE TOPICS ON SCREEN: You can choose to see more than 10 Topics at a time ... Log In and choose "Preferences" from the top bar on the Forum page. Scroll down and Change the "Default Topics Returned" parameter to 25 or 50, and save the changes. Since this setting is stored in your browser 'cookies' (if enabled), it seems to use that stored value even if you are not logged in. So, if you use a PC that you haven't logged into the forum from, the setting still seem to remain at the default.
  8. EXTERNAL PHOTO LINKS ON FORUM: You can still use external photo links in your posts on the new forum. They follow the rules of any link in that they have to have the URL link qualified down to the full image file name (example: .jpg). The links will open in a new browser window, the same as an uploaded image attached to a post. Since an image attachment to any post does not display inline with the post, the results are the same. You can use multiple external links within a post. This link is from photos on a site from Don Clink's 'Deuce@75' albums:

    http://donclink.com/deuce_75_1/images/dscn2950.jpg

Using links from photo sites such as Photobucket can help in "size" issue with uploaded attachment files. For best viewing in web browsers, photos should be around the 800x600 pixel range, and probably not more than 1024x768. Most cameras today store HUGE jpg image files, as the default settings are in the 7, 8, 10, and 12Mb image sizes. The image files that are then attached are very large, and the browser can't display the full image size without using the scroll bars. Use the re-sizing functions of your photo editing software to reduce the image to 800x600, which reduces the file sixe and the image load time in the browser. Don uses Google's free Picassa3 software, which is an excellent photo management product. All of the photo albums of the Deuce, Grand National, and Auburn that are links on the NORG site were built using Picassa's web creation functions. And it's free? (THANKS to Don Clink for the info!)
  9. HOW DO I SHOW MY EMAIL ADDRESS ALONG WITH MY USERNAME? You can LogIn on the Forum, and select PREFERENCES. On this page Members can add optional information such as their City,State, Country; Occupation; Hobbies: list a Homepage; list AOL Instant Messanger Handle; Signature; "Make Email Address viewable to others;" and even change the number of Default Topics shown on a page. WHEN others click on your profile, they will see this information.

If I drive my car and it's up to normal temp ( a little less than 3/4 on the gauge,) and shut it down-It will start instantly- if I restart right away; but if it sits for 20-30 minutes, I have to hold the pedal to the floor to start it and it starts right up! Then I I rev it, and it revs smoothly ; so it obviously wasn't flooded. What do you think the problem is?? Accelerator valve leaking a little and getting to much fuel in the intake manifold?? if it is that valve can I cure it by driving it more?, or do I need a new accelerator valve? It was okay about 3 weeks ago;sat at a car show for 2-3 hours, and started almost instantly, but that's the last time it was driven.

How about some more info. What carburetor ? If you have to hold the pedal down to start it is a sign there is too much gas in the intake or cylinders or flooded. If your running a 94 I would suspect either a leaky gasket or leaking diaphragm on the power valve. If a 97 Carb. it could be fuel pressure or float level. Got an electric fuel pump? One Carb or multiple?

Single Carburetor , on a stock flat head V 8 with only the stock fuel pump. It was new about 1 +1/2 years ago. I believe that it is a carburetor originally made by Ford, and reproduced by Carpenter. Part 8 BA-9510-N. I meant economizer valve in my original post, NOT accelerator valve. It doesn't seem to flood, but I think your right, it's bleeding a little gas into the intake somehow. How to fix that? New gasket on that valve? A little Permatex on the gasket??? Those are my ideas; How say you??

It's been sitting over night night, and I just got in it this morning, turned the key on, and hit the starter button, (with my foot off the accelerator pedal, and no choke), and it started instantly!! Figure that one out???

Regards, Steve Lee

Steve, what you describe is not a problem at all. This is how it's been with carbureted cars of any make for as long as I've been on this planet. I even remember my mother doing that on her old Dodge Brothers sedan.

If this starting problem is something new and you have not had it for the last 1 1/2 years then you could try remove the top of the Carb and fill to a measured point with gas wait 20 minutes and see if the fuel level changes. If it does it would appear the economizer valve or it's gasket is leaking. Do not use any gasket sealer on the gasket for the economizer valve. Daytona parts sells a fairly good rebuilding kit for the Carb. or send the Carb to Charlie Schwendler see V8 Times Services section of classified.

This carburetor wouldn't need a rebuild, just that gasket. Does anyone know where can get just that part if I find that's the problem?? And, why doesn't it do it the next morning if that is leaking?? It used to start after driving it, and it sitting for a short time -with no gas pedal, on the first SHORT crank! (About 2 seconds worth!)

hi
I have a thought, maybe the gas is boiling and flooding the intake,?when hot, after it sits,
opening the throttle when restarting will help with this problem,
this new gas presents new problems,
it also could be a coil problem. hot coils short out,
after it cools then then work,
how is it running for a long drive, looses power ?
my 2 cents 37RAGTOPMAN

I have the answer most won't like. The starter itself is not cranking as fast when the engine is hot and has sat. The field is weak and a new or rebuilt starter is in order.

! don't use that ethanol CR*P!! I only use real gas in my classics to prevent all of those problems folks have with with Ethanol. It's more expensive, but in the end it's really cheaper.

It is a problem. In 1955, when I was 18 years old, I had a 1950 Deluxe Tudor sedan with a 239 V 8, and it never did that; This one never did either, until now, so something isn't right .
