That makes world of difference. Ignore my answer completely., it does not apply to your configuration. Pertronix makes many different types of ignition and I suggest that you contact them for answers to your questions. I am not qualified to answer any questions about their ignition systems.

With an Isky Max-1 cam and a 3 carb manifold, you will have a hard time getting the engine to idle at 475 RPM. The timing is controlled by the advance spring tension, point opening time, distributor RPM and vacuum. the 4 BTDC is set on a distributor machine at 200RPM. If you vary from the the RPM specs, your timing will be different. Use your dwell meter to check that the drivers side points have 22 1/2 degrees of dwell and that the total dwell is 36 degrees, then use the ruler method on Van Pelts site to adjust the slider on the side of the distributor to get the correct timing. To check the complete operation of the advance mechanism, you need a distributor machine.

My manual says the idle rpm should be 475 and timing set at 4 BTDC. I have Offy 425 heads and an Isky Max-1 cam and three Stromberg 97's. I can't get it to idle below 600 and I have the timing set at 4 BTDC with the vacuum hooked up. With the vacuum hooked up, I can rev it to 3000 rpm and the timing advances to about 18 BTDC. I have the advance brake adjusted out all the way and turned in 1.5 turns. I was hoping to get about 23 BTD at full advance. If I disconnect the vacuum and block the port, the timing goes to 2 ATDC. When I rebuilt the engine, I made a pointer and notched the pulley after I used a dial indicator and found top center. I know that is correct. This engine sounds healthy and revs right now with no hesitation. Is the timing set properly with the vacuum connected? Any other comments are appreciated.
